The earplugs block a good bit of sound on their own, but adding the inserts to the inner ring blocks even more sound. The foam reduces noise more than the silicone. These earplugs can be used to sleep, and they're not great for hearing spoken words. They reduce the loudness of noise without affecting its quality. They can still hear music, but it's muffled. The loop earplugs come with a little additional plug that can be inserted into the middle of the loop to cancel sound. Their sound reduction is okay until they fall apart inside the carry case. They are useful in making snoring quieter too.
