The 1 oz Gold coin was fashioned from .9999 fine Gold and had a face value of 2,000 Austrian shillings. The face value of Philharmonic Gold coins was changed from €100 to €100 in 2002, when the currency was introduced in 2002. The Gold Philharmonic coin's obverse depicts the magnificent pipe organ in Vienna's Golden Hall, while the reverse features an assortment of instruments, including the cello, violin, harp, Vienna horn and bassoon. For the 15th anniversary of the Gold Philharmonic in 2004, the Austrian Mint produced a 1,000 oz Gold Philharmonic coin called Big Phil carrying a face value of €100,000 and for the 20th anniversary it issued a 20 oz Gold Philharmonic coin. There are currently several sizes available for Gold Philharmonics that include: 1/25 oz, 1/10 oz, ¼ oz, ½ oz and 1 oz. The Austrian Philharmonic Coin Series In addition to the various sizes of Gold Philharmonic coins available, the Austrian Mint introduced a Silver Philharmonic coins containing 1 oz of .999 fine Silver in 2008, and two sizes of Platinum Philharmonic coins in .9995 fine Platinum: a 1 oz Platinum version in 2016, and a 1/25 oz Platinum in 2018. Both the Silver and Platinum Philharmonics feature the same design as the Gold Philharmonic coins, paying tribute to Vienna Musikverein's Golden Hall and the various instruments of the Vienna Philharmonic. Important NoteCoins dated prior to 2002 are denominated as 2000 schilling, while coins dated 2002 to present are denominated as 100 euros.
