Battalion Wars - Gamecube

Battalion Wars is a spin-off game exclusive to the Gamecube, combining elements of a third-person shooter and a real-time strategy game. Despite its focus on war, the game has a charm that is more kid-friendly than most war games. However, it can be quite difficult, requiring strategic thinking and careful gameplay. The story revolves around the conflict between two nations, the Western Frontier and the Tundran Territories. The truce between them is broken, leading to a series of battles and eventually a common enemy that forces them to team up. The story is engaging and keeps players invested in the game. The gameplay is where Battalion Wars shines. Players are in direct command of different types of units, including infantry and vehicles. Each unit has its own strengths and weaknesses, and players must strategically use them to achieve victory. Combat follows a rock-paper-scissors approach, and players need to figure out the best units for different situations. The game provides various commands and controls for controlling the battalion. There is also a map and mini radar to aid in planning and navigation. One downside of the game is the AI, which can be lacking at times. Units sometimes stand still and don't attack unless directly ordered to. Additionally, some units may fall behind the rest of the battalion. Another downside is the lack of multiplayer mode, which would have added to the game's overall experience. In terms of replay value, the game may not offer much beyond replaying missions to improve scores. There are no collectibles or secrets to discover, and the game can become repetitive over time. Overall, Battalion Wars is a hidden gem on the Gamecube. Despite its flaws, it offers engaging gameplay, an interesting story, and strategic combat.
