Answer: The R8 can detect threats from all four directions with voice alerts for the direction of the threat. -

I got hit by what I believe was a lidar/laser and it never alerted. Is there a setting that I might have changed which caused it to not sound?
Answer: It is possible to turn off the laser alerting, but it may not have detected the laser hit. The location where you mount the R8 can greatly affect the laser reporting. The R8 does not guarantee that you can avoid any speeding ticket that would come from a laser report. -
Question:
Does it work with the Waze app?
Answer: No, it does not have the capability of connecting to the Waze app. -
Question:
Does it come with a mirror tap cable?
Answer: No, radar detectors do not come with mirror taps. You need to purchase those yourself. -
Question:
Do you have the new wire control pad, upgrade power cable that it plugs into, and the new windshield mount available in this package or separately?

Will the R8 adapt to a GoPro windshield mount?
Answer: It comes with its own mount, so there should be no need to use a GoPro mount. -

Why did Uniden stop supporting its product by not uploading up-to-date camera location files since October 2021? This GPS radar detector needs it!
Answer: There is continued support for this product. Firmware and database updates will be posted on the support page when available. -
Question:
Is the screen easy to see for right-hand drive? It looks like it is slanted so that left-hand drive sees it easier.
Answer: You will have no problems with the visual as it can be mounted on the rearview mirror.
Uniden Radar Detectors Editorial Review
The UNIDEN R8 Extreme Long-Range Radar/Laser Detector has an impressive range and can detect radar and laser from both front and rear. The device also has directional arrows to help pinpoint where the signal is coming from. However, the clear plastic piece sticking out of the top of the detector is used to report laser and requires line of sight or a strong bounce to accurately detect. The location where you mount the R8 will greatly affect the laser reporting. The device does not have the capability to connect to the Waze app and does not come with a mirror tap cable. The detector comes with its own windshield mount.
