Answer: I thought the same, until someone pointed out I needed to hook up to monitor with audio cord and set the volume up. If your system has Audio ports it will work -

whats the range for the microphones? how big of an area will one mic cover?
Answer: I installed my microphone on a antenna tower up about 25ft in the air. I can hear the road traffic at about 1200ft away and birds and animals several hundred feet away or a car door shut. It's not quite as sensitive as some built in camera microphones I've had, but it does an adequate job of 200ft to 300ft circumference around your home at maximum volume. Maybe a amplified sound bar would work better, I just have regular tv volume. -

Answer: If you put it outside, yes. Just make sure its protected from the weather. I can hear cars from a mile away, I can hear my neighbors talking in the house with their door closed. And birds are loud. -

is this the microphone i need to connect to my dvr in order to have decent sound on my tv? my dvr is night owl
Answer: Yes you can use this. But I’d go for a better transformer plug. Mine quit working after 1 month. -

Answer: Try changing the transformer plug. Mine stopped working a month after it was plugged in. Put a new plug on it and it started working again. -

Is there anywhere i could go look how to install this mic to my swann dvr 8 4575
Answer: Don't know of any websites to share. But I too have a Swann DVR must get and use a pre amp than go into the DVR line in. Otherwise won't mic won't work. Signal needs to be boosted up using a pre amp. Becarful not to over drive the DVR line in or risk damage. Turn pre amp levels down and turn up as needed to a good level. Hope this helps. Pre amp I use is ALTO MX 862. I run 3 mics and last 2 channels for other applications. -

what will i hear the sound on? can I buy a cheap speaker of some kind and dedicate it to this? maybe hardwire the two together?
Answer: Setup your DVR on the network then login to it with your PC or phone. If your computer and DVR are both local and on the same network then use a internet browser and the IP address of the DVR and log in to view the camera where you have assigned the audio. There are instructions with the DVR how to use it online from a remote location. When you save video to a Flash drive and play it back on a PC you can also hear the video. -

All i want to do is hear someone coming in my driveway entrance that i can't see?maybe they could speak their arrival and i would be expecting them.
Answer: This microphone is incredible; it will pick up the noise of a jet flying overhead at 5 miles, or the neighbors across the street speaking in a normal voice, depending upon where you've located the microphone. I strongly recommend that you seriously consider purchasing this microphone because you can't beat its price, and its sound pickup will amaze you. It will definitely pick up the sound of someone walking or driving up your driveway. Good luck! -

We are wanting to add this to one of our security cameras in our church so the security person watching the system can hear service will this work ?
Answer: It's a great little microphone. I have it outside in a tree for a year now and it hasn't failed. It ought to be great in an indoor environment. My security system only has one of the eight cameras that can add audio from a microphone. If yours is similar, that ought to be just fine. Just remember match the microphone input to the camera with which you will want to hear sound. The microphone has excellent gain and broad spectrum frequency response. That means all the sounds are extremely crystal clear and bold. I can make sparrows sound like crows if I turn the volume up a lot!
